If you used this mobile application, now the legacy Traverse mobile app, please work with the Northwoods Support Center to upgrade to the next-generation Traverse mobile app as soon as possible. Northwoods will only provide limited support on the legacy Traverse mobile app, for non-Windows devices, until July 1, 2024. For Windows devices, the legacy Traverse mobile app will no longer be supported after August 1, 2025.

The Traverse companion mobile application lets you collect case content on your tablet when you're in the field. Below are some of the key features to get you set up.

Logging in

When you first launch the app, you'll be prompted to enter your organization name. Your organization name is the first part of the URL in the Traverse web application, as in organization.northwoodstraverse.com.
โ€‹If you don't know your organization name, try your county and state abbreviation.

Once you enter your organization name, you'll be prompted to enter your Traverse username and password. These are the same credentials you use to log in to the web application.

Downloading cases

The first thing you should do, while you have a data connection, is download any cases you need to your tablet.

The app will still work if you're logged in but don't have a data connection, but you first need to download your cases to your tablet from the Manage Synced Cases button.

Downloading content

To save storage space on your tablet, note that downloading a case doesn't automatically download all its connected content.

Once you've downloaded a case, you'll need to tap into it and selectively tap the connected content items you'd like to download for offline access. Items that are not yet downloaded are shaded in gray and have a download icon.

Adding content

Any photos, forms, audio, and video you add while you view a case will be connected to that case. Content added while you view people or organizations will be connected to them, too.

If you find yourself without a data connection and need to add content for a case that's not synced to your tablet, don't worry. You can still add unconnected items from the main Traverse screen and connect them to the case later from your To Do screen.

Syncing

The mobile app automatically syncs with the web application at a predetermined interval, so everything will be up to date on web and mobile.

The Status screen reflects that schedule, and you can tap the Sync Now button if you need to sync instantly while online.

Overview of offline access

If you're already logged in, the app works offline, but here's what you cannot see:

  • Cases and content items you haven't downloaded. You can still add content items for the next sync.

  • Data entered on in-progress forms when you preview the PDF. For more information, see Adding and completing a form on mobile.

  • The Sync Now button will be disabled, but the sync will run with the next data connection.
