The instructions below will guide you through downloading, installing, and configuring scanner settings so users can scan with Traverse. Scanner settings, like the ability to scan double-sided (blank page detection) or in color, are not controlled or included in Traverse itself and need to be set up via the scanner.

These instructions must be completed for every machine that will be using Traverse to scan, and all sections must be completed in order to use the full range of functionality on your scanners.

Section 1: Downloading the Dynamsoft Service

In order for Traverse to communicate with the local scanner, a third-party software called Dynamsoft must be installed. This software is essentially the middle-man between the scanner and the browser. The first time you attempt to scan in Traverse or when you need to upgrade the Dynamsoft Service, you will be prompted to download and install the Dynamsoft Service.

  1. Navigate to a case, person, or organization in Traverse.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Click Scan.
    The scan page appears.

  4. Click Begin Scanning to begin the scan process.
    A message from Dynamsoft appears.

  5. Click Download. (Administrative credentials may be needed to download. If required, please contact your system administrator.)

  6. Open the MSI file.
The Dynamsoft Service setup wizard opens to the welcome screen.

  7. Click Next.
    The Confirm Installation screen appears.

  8. Click Next.
The service begins installing. You may need to allow the installer to make changes to your computer.

  9. When the installation is complete, click Close.

  10. Refresh the Traverse browser window.

  11. Click Begin Scanning again.
In the case of an upgrade, you do not need to continue to Section 2.

  12. If you aren't upgrading the Dynamsoft Service, continue to Section 2.

Section 2: Downloading and installing the PaperStream driver

  1. Download the PaperStream IP (TWAIN) driver installer, available on the Ricoh website. You'll need to select the appropriate series, scanner, and target OS to display a list of installers, then download the newest PaperStream IP (TWAIN) driver installer EXE.

  2. Open the EXE file. If prompted, allow the installer to make changes to your computer.
The PaperStream IP Driver Setup window opens to the Welcome screen.

  3. Click Next.
    The Select Software screen appears.

  4. Verify that the PaperStream IP (TWAIN) box is checked.

  5. Click Next.
    The License Agreement screen appears.

  6. Check the license acceptance box.

  7. Click Install.
The driver begins installing. The installation process may take some time.

  8. When the installation is complete, click Close

  9. Continue to Section 3.

Section 3: Configuring scanner settings

Scanner settings need to be applied to each machine that uses Traverse to scan using the steps below or by importing a settings configuration file (PAV file) on the computer. See Applying scanner settings using a settings configuration file.

Scanner settings, like the ability to scan double-sided (blank page detection) or in color, are not controlled or included in Traverse itself and need to be set up via the scanner's Twack_32 application.

Note: The steps below allow Ricoh scanners to scan into Traverse in color.

  1. Connect the scanner to the computer and turn it on.

  2. Download the Twacker 32-bit utility, available here. (Administrative credentials may be needed to download. If required, please contact your system administrator.)

  3. Open the MSI file. If prompted, allow the utility to make changes to your computer.
The Twacker 32 installer opens to the welcome screen.

  4. Click Next.
    The Confirm Installation screen appears.

  5. Click Next. If prompted, allow the installer to make changes to your computer.
    The utility begins installing.

  6. When the installation is complete, click Close.

  7. Restart the computer. (You'll need to reopen this article after restarting the computer.)

  8. Click the Start button and type Twack_32, then click on the app.

  9. Click File.

  10. Click Setup.

  11. Change the toggle at the top right from Simple to Advanced.

  12. Change the following settings:

    • In the Basic section, set Image Mode to Automatic Color Detection.

    • In the Basic section, set Resolution to 200 dpi.

    • In the Basic section, set Paper Size to Legal.

    • In the Page section, set Edge Correction > Edge Filler to Off.

    • In the Page section, set Blank Page Detection > Content Sensitivity to high by dragging the slider to its farthest left position.

    • In the Page section, set Blank Page Detection > Margin to 0mm.
โ€‹Note: The blank page detection settings allow pages to scan double-sided.

  13. Click OK to save your changes.
You can now scan using Traverse.
