While you can add a virtual print from a case, a person, or an organization, there may be a situation where you need to add a virtual print for a caseworker to handle later.

The work items feature lets you bypass the connections requirement and add a virtual print from the user overview page (plant icon) that appears when you first log in. You won't need to add connections; you'll just route the virtual print to the worker as a work item.

Content you route to a worker will appear in their list of work items. That worker will later need to connect the content item to a case, a person, or an organization to mark the work item as complete.

Once you submit a virtual print, it becomes a content item, and you cannot edit it.

To route a virtual print to a worker

  1. Once the virtual printer has been installed on your machine (see Traverse Virtual Printer: Installer and instructions), you'll be able to select Traverse Virtual Printer as the printer when you print a file. You may also be prompted for your Traverse credentials.
Note: You cannot virtually print TIF/TIFF files. Additionally, the print process times out after 10 minutes, so larger files may time out and fail to print.

  2. Then in Traverse, click the + New button.

  3. Click Virtual prints.
    The virtual prints page appears.

  4. Select a virtual print. If you don't see a thumbnail for the virtual print you want to submit yet, wait a moment then refresh your browser window.
The right-hand panel shows more options.

  5. Use the pencil and date icons to select a content type and date and create a work item* for this virtual print. You can add any connections** if available.
*Some content types may have been configured by your agency to have work items with default values. As a result, switching the content type could replace the work item that exists in the right-hand panel.

**Sometimes agencies want all content to be routed to workers as work items. If this requirement restricts your submission, you can check the Don't require work item box and add a connection.

  6. Click Submit content item.
The content item submits, and you have the option to select another virtual print. Traverse starts processing the content item as soon as you submit it, but you may have to wait a moment before you can view it.
